Glugging hookbaits has always been something I've done.
I'm not a fan of flavours as such, but I do like to give my bottom baits and pop ups a regular dose of a natural liquid, or blend of natural liquids, months, often years before I need them. Leaving them on the shelf in the van and giving them a shake and a check every now and then.
If they've absorbed everything then I'll give them another glaze and just keep repeating the process until I eventually need them.
This pot of King Squid pop ups I started about 14 month's ago with what was, at that point and he mk1 version of the Hookbait Dip. Since then I think it's had a dose of the mk2 and mk3 versions!
There wasn't a huge amount of difference between that original version and the one I eventually signed off, but if you know me you'll know I'm pretty OCD when it comes to bait and bait prep, so they did need a few adjustments until I was happy, which I now am!
The ingredients within all the King liquids are natural, packed full of aminos, vitamins, minerals and salts, so in truth they can't be over done.
On the public waters I go pretty heavy on the matching liquid for the boilie, our liquid Bloodworm and a good glug of our salmon oil. I want to get a serious signal in that area and drag them to the baited spot, and it's a tactic that has done me very well these last few years.
On the trickier big fish commercials, like Lac Solace I tone things down a bit.
I don't want that spot screaming so loud and spooking them, but I do want to stand out from the crowd and let them know there's a super nutritional meal over here, so I probably use about 50% less of each liquid to compared with the publics.
So as a rule of thumb a 5kg bag of frozen boilie goes in the bucket with probably a pint of water to open the pours and make sure the bait takes on the liquids. Then I'll whack 1/2 a litre of the matching liquid and 1/2 a litre of the bloodworm liquid in the bucket, shut the lid and give it a really good shake making sure both liquids have blended with the water.
I normally aim to do this 4 or 5 days before I plan to use it and a couple of times a day I'll give that bucket a good shake. After day three I drain off any excess into the particle or pellet I also plan to use and add about 100ml of our salmon oil and again give it a good shake over the next couple of days.
By doing it this way the oil that is absorbed into that 1st mm or so of each bait is temporarily trapping those liquids and soluble ingredients into the bait. As that blips off it will gradually take the other liquids with it creating a chum line as well as giving you that mega little slick when something is really investigating or chomping on the spot. The more the oil is released the easier it is for those soluble ingredients to leach out of the bait and start calling for the carps attention.
There are not many carp that can ignore the call of those aminos and salts!
